ryan-dolan-ceramic-artist-aboutRyan Dolan is a ceramic artist from Meriden, CT.  He is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BA in Art, concentrating in ceramics and sculpture.  While an undergrad, Ryan immersed himself in the study of alternative firing techniques such as raku, pit firing, barrel firing, and smoke firing.  During this time, he began teaching wheel thrown pottery at Simsbury Art Academy in Simsbury, CT.  A year later, Ryan also began teaching at Wesleyan Potters, in Middletown, CT, where he was the youngest instructor to hold a position there.

Since discovering clay in college, Ryan has spent thousands of hours honing his craft, developing his style, and studying the history and processes of the ceramic arts. Over several years, Ryan’s artwork has evolved on a path toward refinement and simplification, shaped by his study of eastern philosophical traditions and an endless pursuit of pure form. His work has been exhibited throughout Connecticut and is in private collections across the United States and Europe.

Ryan’s studio is located in the historic Sessions Clock Factory in Forrestville, CT, where he offers one-on-one instruction to students of all levels looking to learn or improve wheel throwing and hand building techniques in clay. Outside of the ceramics studio, Ryan is an art teacher at Hamden High School in Hamden, CT.
